Thirteen years ago, I died.

While my death hadn’t been physical, it became a never-ending death of the heart. A complete withering of the soul. You see, Austin Carlyle was my everything. My best friend. My lover. The very air I breathed. The sun in my world. My warmth. The beating of my heart. But the night before our wedding, my heart would be ripped from me when Austin’s life ended in a horrific car crash. A crash I ‘survived’ if that’s what you want to call it.

Unable to cope with Austin’s loss, I retreated deep within myself, eventually leaving New York and my broken past behind. I found some semblance of a new life in Colorado, living in the make-believe worlds of the novels I wrote.

Three weeks ago, I returned to the place I knew would hold all the ghosts of my past, though I came back to the Big Apple at the urging of an old acquaintance, Zander Harrison—Austin’s one-time agent and friend. He convinced me to help him with a script to a movie that had been put in a very expensive holding pattern. The leading man hadn’t been happy with the direction of the film and had requested Zander find me. I couldn’t imagine why. I wrote romance novels. I wasn’t a script writer. But something about my books captured Cayden—an A-list actor I’d never seen or heard of before. Of course, I’d soon find out not knowing who the actor was, was ridiculous. I might have been living in my own personal dark ages, but still. He was a megastar. However, the real shocker would be what I faced when memories from the past came back to haunt me.

Weak, bone-cold, sopping-wet, and on the verge of batshit crazy, I stumbled into someone on Valentine’s Day—of all days—who shook me to my very unsteady foundation. What I saw when I looked at him was the face of a destroying angel, because it was like looking back in time at Austin. Oh, there were a few things different, like the color of his hair being nowhere near the pitch black of Austin’s, but so much about the man was baffling. He was the same height—his build an exact match. His voice—eerily close in texture, tone, and inflection. But if that’s not strange enough, he spoke with the same cadence.

Who was he? The Hollywood heartthrob I’d never seen before—Cayden Cain.

After our bizarre ‘introduction’ the need to know more about him ate at me like the slow drip of acid. I had to find some answers, so I searched the internet. Surprised by the results of my search would be an understatement. It was all too much. Too unbelievable. Impossible. Cayden was twenty-three years old, the exact same age Austin was when he was killed, but even stranger, Cayden had been born in the same month, on the same day—May eighteenth—in the same city as Austin, only years later.

But that’s not all. There was a weird coincidence of Cayden being involved in a car accident. One which tragically took the lives of his parents and left him the sole survivor of that accident when he was ten, putting this terrible happening around the same timeframe as the wreck Austin and I were involved in. What was also baffling was the life path Cayden took—acting. It was very close to the path Austin had taken and would have continued to take if he’d been alive. By seventeen, Cayden had been the lead in a small foreign film and moved to Hollywood shortly after, gaining his groundbreaking role at the age of eighteen. The first movie Cayden obtained his superstar recognition for was Longing.

Before Austin’s death, he’d signed a movie deal with Paramount. What was the title of the movie he was to begin filming after our wedding? Longing.

When I first read that, I gaped—completely stunned. Then I read a synopsis of the movie, beyond shocked to see it wasn’t just a coincidence of the title; it was the exact same movie. I had no idea why Paramount shelved their project for so many years. But to find it had finally been completed with Cayden as the leading man, well, what were the odds of such a thing?

Even with all the uncanny coincidences and the almost carbon copy similarities in appearance, what was truly unbelievable? Cayden’s eyes—the same shades of blue from my past. They captured me, looking straight into my soul—the eyes of my love. My life.

Everything changed.

Trust me, I tried to fight against the truth—the pull I hadn’t felt in so very long—but it was no use. I’d come to believe, as crazy as it might seem, some way, somehow, Austin saved me through Cayden. It was as though they were two hearts, one soul. Cayden himself spoke as though he’d always known me. Missed me. Loved me even. I couldn’t explain how it was possible, but he, like Austin, was the missing piece of my heart.

With his touch, Cayden brought me back to life, reawakened dormant feelings, and gave me what had long been missing—Winter Perri. The only problem, I wasn’t sure I could live in Cayden’s superstar, paparazzi infested world.

“Will you stay with me?” he’d asked.

I gave the only answer that made any sense at all.

My fellow Canadian, J.J. King, has a hot new addition to her Masterclass series out today. Theoretical Love is the second book in this sizzling collection of smart, sexy stories that you can read before bed or over a lunch hour. So, settle in, read an excerpt and have a peek inside J.J.’s mind…

Tell us a little bit about your newest release.

Theoretical Love is the second book in a series called Masterclass. These stories are part of Evernight Publishing’s Romance on the go line; sizzling romances for busy readers.

Book I, Epic Love, introduced Zoey Matthews and Dr. Sebastian Lane, and led the reader and characters on a mystery that could change the history of St. John’s, Newfoundland, forever. Book II, Theoretical Love, continues the mystery but tells the story of Dr. Rachel Grande and the delectable Etta McCall.

If you could recommend any book (beside your own) to everyone reading this, what would it be?

I’m in love with local authors. I’m from Newfoundland, Canada, and the talent here is astounding, even though most people aren’t aware of it. I think the answer to this question has to be two-fold. I adore Canadace Osmond’s thriller, Killer Me. It’s smart and sexy and just dark enough to give it some edge. I also love J. Margot Critch’s writing. She’s a Harlequin Blaze author with a 3 book deal for the new Dare line coming next year, but she writes this series set in St. John’s, called Brewed Moon. I can’t get enough of the men she writes. You want big, gorgeous, just damaged enough to make you want to fuck them, men… then check her stuff out!

What else are you working on right now? What’s up next from you?

Next up. That’s a fun question because I’m one of those people who has seven things on the go at any one time. I’m currently trying to ignore everything but my paranormal trilogy, though. Book 3, Sins of the Father, is proving to be intricate and challenging. It’s the third in a trilogy that has romance, thriller, and suspense all woven together, so there are a lot of threads to pick up. I’m emmersed in the world of my main character, Katherine LaFlamme, and everything else is on the back burner until I can finish her world.

After that, though, I have so much ready to go. I’ll be writing books 3 and 4 of the Masterclass series, Classic Love and Graphic Love. I’m also going to writing books 2 and 3 of my Evernight series, Northern Wild. Once those are finished, I have a Canadian bad boys series I’m loving, a Medusa story that won’t leave me alone, and a seven part contemporary sexy series set in Maine.

Lots and lots, that’s my answer.

Apart from writing, what are your great passions in life?

Before I started writing, I loved painting, but I havne’t picked up a paintbrush in quite a while. It’s like all my creativity and focus went straight to taking words from my brain and putting them on paper. There’s something addictive about writing, about seeing your thougths put into print.

Of course, that doesn’t mean I don’t have other passions. I have a three and a half year old son that steals my breath every day. He’s a whirlwind of passion and joy, frustration and curiosity. My son and husband are my life, as are the rest of my family and my friends.

If you could have dinner with any three writers, living or dead, who would they be?

Easy. Stephen King, Nora Roberts, and Shakespeare.

I know it’s a little cliche to want to meet Shakespeare but my reason might be different than you’d expect. We think of his writing as high class now, as pillars of taste, but in his time, William Shakespeare’s plays were downright dirty. Bawdy would be their word for them. He wrote entangled relationships, love affrairs, mistaken identities, and hilarious jokes. He wrote romance and smarty pants literature buffs eat his stuff up now. The truth is that he was one of us, and I’d love to share a pint with him.

As for Stephen King and Nora Roberts, they are my heroes. The way King wove pieces of The Dark Tower series into his entire world astounds me. He’s spent a life creating a universe. He’s brilliant. Nora Roberts, too, amazes me. She is such a prolific writer and a bad ass. I won’t hope to someday publish as much as she has, because she’d say hope has nothing to do with it. Hard word, dedication, and talent, those are the corner stones to her writing. Like I said, badass.

Theoretical Love (Masterclass #2) by J.J. King

“You’re so beautiful,” Rachel murmured, rising slightly onto the tips of her toes to press her lips against Etta’s.

A soft moan filled the vault, echoing off the walls, and Rachel didn’t know if it came from her or Etta. The lusty sound reverberated through her, turning her core to molten lava and unlocking the passion she’d been trying so hard to hold back.

Rachel slid her hand into Etta’s long silky hair and tugged her face down slightly, licking out her tongue to taste. The delicate flavor of Etta’s tongue, snaking out to touch playfully with her own, reminded Rachel of peaches in the sun, so ripe and full of sunshine. She nipped at Etta’s bottom lip, wanting more, needing everything all at once.

Gone was the thought of waiting, of pacing out their romance and reveling in the anticipation. Rachel’s body screamed to press up against Etta’s, to taste and touch, to devour until Etta’s cried of release were etched in her memory forever. She moved quickly, twirling Etta around and pressing her against a wall, then gathered her hair and moved to the front.

The rasp of the long zipper that held Etta’s dress firmly against her long curves was music to Rachel’s ears. She inched it down slowly, following its descent with her tongue and lips. Etta splayed her hands against the wall, bracing herself, but Rachel could feel the shaking of her legs as her mouth played with the sensitive skin on Etta’s back.

Rachel stopped as she reached Etta’s belt and, undoing it, let it fall to the floor. She trailed her fingertips over Etta’s shoulder blades and down to the sides of her breasts, peeling the velvet dress off her skin. She leaned in and licked the base of her neck as her fingers explored the small of Etta’s perfectly smooth back. A tiny sunburst tattoo hidden just above the curve of her ass made Rachel smile. She may look like a lady from the outside, but Ms. McCall had a saucy side.

Darcy holds out a beckoning hand toward Tam. “I’m not taking your place, man, I promise. Tonight is about Jules and her needs, but it’s also about you. Come here.”

“I…” Tam swallows, takes a tiny step toward us and stops.

Both of you, Thomas.” Hearing Darcy use Tam’s real name like that is a bit of a shock. Especially when he utters the words in that gruff, slightly husky voice that rolls right over my skin. I shiver and watch Tam carefully for his response. No one calls him Thomas anymore, except me when we’re in the midst of an argument. How will he react? Does he also feel this same strange connection to Darcy that I do?

“Come on, man.” There’s a coaxing edge to Darcy’s tone now. “Let’s put the real world out of our heads, for the next few hours at least. This is about the three of us, no one else, and this here hotel room is now our world. Nothing else matters, and in here, anything goes, as long as it’s consensual.” He gestures again for Tam to join us. “Consensual by all three of us. It has to be that way. Or not at all.”

The silence is thick, as if charged with unspoken excitement. The gentle hum of the heating unit pushes at the edges of my awareness and I almost laugh. I doubt the steady flow of warm air is necessary, given the emotional heat raising the temperature in the room.

After a moment, my husband nods and then he’s suddenly there in front of us, grabbing me back out of Darcy’s now loosened embrace and leaning in for a kiss of his own.

Whoa! Where did that come from, husband?

Tam’s kiss is fierce, almost punishing, and the most passionate one he’s delivered in at least the past three or four years. It is so different to Darcy’s gentle quest. Tam’s lips, his tongue, his whole mouth devours mine, until my brain switches off and all I can do is feel, and lust, and need.

I need this. I need him. I need them both.

Please welcome my guest today, the lovely Katerina Ross with her brand new release, Soul Infection.  🙂

Thanks for having me on your blog today! I’m happy to share my new release with you. “Soul Infection”, book one in “The Sons of Gomorrah” series, is a paranormal M/M novella set in Prague. I’ve always wondered how magic works and why magicians have to learn spells instead of just saying, “Let it rain!” or “Let this evil guy stumble into a pool with crocodiles!” There are so many fantasy books, yet nowhere I could find any believable explanations, so I had to invent a plausible theory myself! I’ve had the idea for this story for years, literally, but it lacked something. Now I know – it lacked sex 😉 This shortcoming was fixed, and the final version of “Soul Infection” features not only a freelance magician, but a shameless incubus.

Soul Infection (The Sons of Gomorrah #1) by Katerina Ross

Jarek slid off the bed, the coverlet still loosely draped over his shoulders and trailing behind him like a king’s cloak. In the gap between the folds, Tristan could see everything he wanted to.

“Don’t move,” Jarek told him softly. “Keep your hands to your sides.”

And Tristan obeyed.

“Interesting,” Jarek mused, trailing a finger along his collarbone.

Tristan sucked in a deep shuddering breath, but stayed still. It felt odd, letting this happen. Jarek slipped his hand lower, casually brushed it across Tristan’s perked nipple on the way, and then traced a path down his chest and over the muscles of his abdomen. Tristan’s abs went taut at the feather light touch, and Jarek laughed quietly.

“Sensitive.” He stated the obvious. He let the coverlet slip from his shoulders—an effortlessly seductive gesture, probably well-practiced. A slow, crooked smile made the expression on Jarek’s face all the more lascivious, which was most certainly the intention. “I think I know what you need.”

Tristan looked down pointedly and then up, with a hint of sarcasm. “Well, that’s kind of apparent.”

He still felt nervous, but not as much as when he’d thought of being pitied or rejected.

Jarek quirked an eyebrow at him. “Is it? Hmm. We’ll definitely come to that, but why rush things? I’m here to take care of your wishes, even the ones you’re not sure you have. Why not try something new, something unusual?” He leaned in, very close, and Tristan felt Jarek’s warm breath on his lips when he whispered, “Just let me take control for a while, and you’ll see how good I can make you feel.”

The next moment, Jarek backed off, to Tristan’s disappointment, but maintained eye contact, and Tristan felt unable to look away, as if mesmerized. The tips of Jarek’s fingers now rested lightly on his hipbones, almost where Tristan wanted them most but not moving closer.

“Say yes,” Jarek coaxed him in a low voice. “Say you give in to me tonight. It’s easy, giving in.”

“Yes,” Tristan breathed out, not sure what he’s agreeing to and not caring in the least.
